In the sidebar the zoom to feature is not zooming in

Since a point feature doesn't have an area, it doesn't have an extent. We can't zoom to a point since we don't know what an appropriate scale would be - for example, a point representing a pothole would have a different suitable scale than a point representing a mountain peak.

A point feature can be set to a fixed scale to zoom to via the layer configuration | Details Tab | Feature Zoom Scale.
Set as an integer value, so if the scale you want to zoom to was 1:2400, enter 2400 in this field.
